You likely don’t remember how you met everyone in your contact database. And, all those contacts probably don’t remember how and when and where they met you either.

When you add a contact to your database and when they’ve opted in to receive communications from you, be sure to indicate in a separate field for that contact on how you first met. It’s a missed opportunity to NOT mention how you met the recipient when you contact them for the first time.

Mass email? Customize a field to add the “here’s how we met” section. “As you recall when we met at the open house on Twin Oak Drive on Sunday….” Personal email, same thing. Note or phone call, bring it up very early in the introduction. When you mention your connection to that person, they’ll be more receptive to your communications and get a head start on building the relationship with you.

How do you jog people’s memory of how you met and why you’re contacting them?
